Bald Hills Fire provides Basic Life Support (BLS) services, including transport to hospital when resources and staffing allows. By providing this service when possible, our crews can respond and transport patients promptly, rather than waiting for a private ambulance to respond from the Olympia/Lacey area.
With a majority of our calls for service being of a medical nature, we place a strong emphasis on medical training. In cooperation with Thurston County Medic One and the County’s Medical Program Director, our Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) participate in weekly drills and scheduled OTEP training to ensure competency and compliance with state certification requirements.

Bald Hills Fire Protection District 17 charges a flat base rate of $1,200 and $26 per mile for BLS transport services. The rate at which the expense of operating a fire district increases continues to outpace the revenue received. The practice of providing BLS ambulance transport service when medically necessary is helping address the increasing demand and charging a reasonable fee will help offset the additional costs associated with this service.
